2017 Apprentice & Trainee of the Year

Apprenticeships Matter would like to congratulate the following winners of our Apprentice and Trainee of the year awards for 2017.


Amy Wheeler
Employer: New Plumbing Solutions
Training Provider: Box Hill Institute of TAFE

Amy commenced working for New Plumbing Solutions (NPS) at the beginning of 2017, completing her one day a week pre-apprenticeship placement before starting with NPS as a full-time Apprentice. Amy is a highly regarded and respected member of the NPS team, showing initiative and drive in every task she completes. You won’t ever catch Amy standing around, she is an extremely hard-worker with a strong ambition to learn from her superiors.

Amy is a team-player, always the first to put her hand up to help out and do what it takes to get the job done. Amy is inquisitive, seeks criticism and takes all feedback and advice on-board at all times. Amy treats all company property with the utmost respect, proactively cleaning plant and equipment on her way home from jobs, and maintaining her company vehicle to an impeccable standard. Amy is punctual, polite, well-presented and consistently exceeds all expectations. She has an extremely bright future, and NPS look forward to watching her grow into a future leader with their company.




Stephanie Connelly
Employer: Homie Apparel
Training Provider: Knowledgespace

Stephanie was part of the Pathways Program, employed by Homie Apparel (a foundation set up to support kids at risk of homelessness) and was trained by Knowledgespace. Steph entered the program with enthusiasm and attended every training session with a positive manner.  She contributed to every group discussion and undertook all assessment activities with determination to provide her best responses.

At the end of the provided training, Steph was able to identify learning outcomes she achieved and discuss development of her knowledge and experience in retail. During the traineeship , Steph also worked shifts at the retail Homies store every week. Steph was always punctual and was not absent from work at all during the course of her traineeship.

Since the end of the training, Steph has secured a role with Apple, undergoing a gruelling 5 interview process to get the job.
Steph is a great candidate for the Trainee of year, due to her fantastic work ethic, great team orientation, ability to pick up new skills quickly all while displaying commitment to her learning and career development.

The Pathways program was developed to assist kids at risk of homelessness gain a qualification, get work experience and transition into a self sustained career. Steph has exceeded all expectations of the program. She is a true success story and we think embodies what traineeships should be about.
