What is Australian School Based Apprenticeship?

An Australian School Based Apprenticeship (ASBA), also known as a School Based Apprenticeship or Traineeship (SBAT) is the opportunity to combine your school education with paid, part-time employment and training.

If you are in Years 10, 11 or 12, you will gain hands-on industry experience, and the opportunity to complete a nationally recognised qualification, all whilst completing your senior school certificate.

What’s involved?

As an ASBA you will be required to:

  • Work a minimum of seven hours per week;
  • Continue studying at school for 3-4 days to complete your other VCE/VCAL units;
  • Enrol with a training provider to complete relevant training and assessments in order to successfully gain your qualification
